The University’s bursar’s office has made available a financial planning web site that you may find helpful: http://www.cashcourse.org/buffalo
Tuition / Academic Expenses:
Financial Aid Disbursements:
Your financial aid, including loans, is disbursed evenly between the fall and spring semesters as per federal regulations. However, you will have significantly higher expenses for the fall semester than for the spring semester because there are more out-of-pocket expenses in the fall (refer to estimated expenses sheet provided above).
For example, the entire cost of the notebook computer and articulator are due in the fall. Some suppliers (e.g., supply purchase, magnification) will allow split payments despite providing these supplies in the fall. Note that financial aid covers all estimated expenses; however, because it must be disbursed evenly, you will need to plan accordingly and be prepared to make these purchases during orientation.
Out-of-Pocket Expenses:
Please be aware that you will be facing significant out-of-pocket expenses (approximately $8000) during Orientation. These include the cost of an articulator (approximately $400), supplies (approximately $2700), the DVD ($1350) and a laptop computer, software and peripherals (approximately $3500). Follow the links to the left to read a letter about the articulator purchase and to download the articulator order form.
The Department of Gross Anatomy will be issuing scrubs to be worn during gross anatomy lab. In addition, you may want to purchase scrubs to wear in clinical and preclinical courses. These will be available for purchase during orientation ($15 to $20/set). You are not required to purchase these scrubs, but many students have found them to be a practical, inexpensive alternative to street clothes.
All of the above costs are included in your financial aid budget, but will not appear on your tuition bill; you are expected to pay for these separately at the time of issue. Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. An extended payment option is also available for supplies. The Office of Student Affairs strongly encourages you to enroll in direct deposit, which will provide you with access to your financial aid 10 days prior to the start of classes. Information and forms for direct deposit are available on the Student Response Center website.
